Food is an essential part of day to day life and can be a very expensive cost to your daily budget. Luckily there are ways to get around this issue and here are 6 ways to save money on your food budget.
- The Reduced Aisle
When shopping at your local supermarket, check out the reduced aisle. Often this aisle has pretty good quality food for cheap, as they will be going out of date soon and the store needs to get rid of them asap. You will spend a fraction of the cost if you were to buy them at full price.
2. Reuse Your Bags!
Here in the UK we have to pay for our shopping bags known as the plastic bag tax, which is understandable because plastic is so disruptive to the environment. Every penny counts so make sure to take your own bags when shopping.
3. Plan Ahead
Plan your meals for the week ahead, make a shopping list and stick to it! This will lead to less temptations to buy other things that are just not necessary.
4. Buy Supermarket Own Brands
They are usually much cheaper than the bigger brands and taste just as good. Now I’m not saying to choose the economy brand, but if you did that you will probably triple your savings!
5. Take a Packed Lunch To Work
It can be really tempting at lunch times to buy food, especially if your work place is located next to a lot of fast food joints. It’s ok to do this on occasion but you will save a lot of money in the long run if you take your own food to work.
This brings me to my last tip, which is to limit the amount of times you go out to eat at restaurants as they’re often not cheap and you can end up spending a lot of money. Instead find some recipes online and cook from home. You will hopefully enjoy the meal and enjoy the money saved.
